Are you a solicitor with 2-6 years' experience looking for interesting and challenging work?

We need an intermediate solicitor to join our Corporate Legal team to work predominantly in our information law practice.

As a Solicitor in the Corporate Legal group, you will be part of a specialist legal team within Inland Revenue that advises on corporate law including employment, commercial, property and public law issues (we do not deal with any taxtechnical matters).

This is a permanent,full-timerole preferably based in Wellington but would consider Christchurch for the right candidate. We are open to considering flexible working arrangements.

About you|Mou

To be successful in thisroleyou willbring:

  • Experience in advising on matters relating to the Official Information and Privacy Acts.
  • A genuine interest in learning to write interagency information sharing agreements.
  • Strong experience in statutory interpretation and legal drafting.
  • Proven ability to assess legal risks and provide practical and legally sound solutions and advice.
  • A willingness to engage in advising on a broad range of legal matters across Corporate Legal's practice areas.
  • Excellent relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to build trusted partnerships and work collaboratively with internal clients and external legal counsel while delivering professional and responsive legal services. Key stakeholders include the Privacy Commissioner's Office, Ombudsman's Office, our Privacy Officer, Policy colleagues and our Ministerial Services Team.
  • Hold a current New Zealand practising certificate and a commitment to maintaining professional standards, ethical conduct, and ongoing legal professional development.

About the Corporate Legal Team|Momatou

We provide advice and support on any general legal matter involvingor affectingInland Revenue as an organisation, employer or government department. Tax-technical work is done by a different legal team.

We deal with many types of legal matters including administrative law, civil litigation, commercial andcontractual matters, employment, human rights, information law (Privacy/OIA), media law, property, statutory confidentiality obligations and general legislation.

We are responsible for:

  • the management and delivery of legal services to IR, whether internally or externally provided;
  • deciding when and for what purpose external legal advisers should be instructed on behalf of IR; and
  • instructing, managing and exercising oversight of external legal advisers.
