Health & Safety Lead

Are you passionate about ensuring safety and delivering exceptional customer experiences? Discover Waitomo is looking for a dedicated Health & Safety Lead to join our team and help us exceed customer expectations while promoting a culture of safety and sustainability.

As the Health & Safety Lead, you will play a crucial role in overseeing health and safety initiatives across the Discover Waitomo group. You will work closely with the General Manager and other senior managers to ensure our customer service delivery is top-notch and aligned with our sustainability goals. Your responsibilities will include providing advice, supervision, and training on health and safety matters, conducting audits, and representing Discover Waitomo on the thl Global H&S committee.

• Lead the Health & Safety function with support from the General Manager.
\n
• Champion the “every incident is preventable” mentality and implement group initiatives.
\n
• Oversee and investigate incidents, ensuring critical risk and emergency management plans are up to date.
\n
• Facilitate health and safety training opportunities and attend committee meetings.
\n
• Conduct regular audits and create actionable improvement plans.
\n
• Contribute to the development and delivery of the Discover Waitomo induction program.
\n
• Support the rehabilitation and return-to-work process for staff.
\n

\n
• Accreditation in Occupational Safety & Health or Workplace Health & Safety Management is highly sought after.
\n
• Experience in tourism operations, preferably in a complex environment.
\n
• Strong understanding of the tourism industry and adventure product delivery.
\n
• Familiarity with New Zealand Health and Safety at Work requirements.
\n
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and coaching skills.
\n
• Ability to build team engagement and a high-performance culture.
\n
• Strong customer service skills and the ability to manage conflict effectively.
\n
• Experience in a cave and karst environment is highly sought after but not mandatory.
\n
