We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Senior Solicitor to join our Corporate and Registries team. The Corporate & Registries team provides legal advice to all MBIE’s operations, including in relation to MBIE’s 17 regulatory systems and on governance, integrity and conduct matters that touch the organisation.

Due to flexibility within the team, there is scope for our lawyers to work in relation to different regulatory systems, depending on their experience and interest. This also means that we can offer significant opportunities for developing experience across a broad variety of subject areas and building your career within MBIE.

In this role you will have the opportunity to provide legal advice on a broad range of matters including climate change, sustainability, and the future of work. Your clients may be involved in implementing upcoming legislative reform in areas of building, employment, or health & safety. You may be advising across MBIE’s occupational regulation functions, space matters or working across Government on matters like Space Weather.

In this role you will work with other in‑house counsel, providing high quality and timely advice on a wide range of legal issues. You will need to be technically proficient, agile, adaptable and a strong communicator.

You will work with autonomy in a collaborative and supportive environment and share your knowledge with others to provide advice and support on some of MBIE’s most complex legal matters.

• A tertiary qualification in law and a practising certificate
\n
• Over 5 years’ PQE
\n
• Experience in public law and an understanding of the mechanisms of government
\n
• Strong legal technical skills
\n
• Well-developed written and verbal communication abilities, which allow you to convey key ideas and issues in a way that is suitable to the audience
\n
• The ability to deliver successful outcomes in a demanding environment
\n
• Strong relationship management skills and an ability to work well with others
\n
• Enthusiasm, drive, and a proactive nature
\n
• Experience working in relation to one or more of MBIE’s 17 regulatory systems
\n
• Experience working on governance, integrity and conduct matters and / or regulatory compliance and enforcement
