Job Description
The Senior Software Engineer plays a key role in designing, developing, and delivering software solutions within the Navico Group PD&E division. This hands‑on engineering role focuses on building reliable, high quality products while collaborating closely with cross‑functional teams. The role requires strong technical capability, practical engineering judgment, and a collaborative mindset.
\nResponsibilities include designing and developing high quality software systems and applications, contributing to architecture and technical decisions, collaborating with stakeholders to deliver robust solutions, supporting software quality through automation and testing, troubleshooting complex software and system-level issues, mentoring junior engineers, and integrating software, firmware, and hardware as product needs evolve. Exposure to firmware and embedded systems development is highly valued.
Essential Functions\n- \n
- Design, develop, test, and maintain high quality software systems and applications. \n
- Contribute to technical design discussions and code reviews. \n
- Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to deliver robust solutions. \n
- Support software quality through testing, automation, debugging, and best engineering practices. \n
- Troubleshoot complex software and system-level issues. \n
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a strong engineering culture. \n
- Contribute to architecture and technical decisions where appropriate. \n
- Collaborate on software, firmware, and hardware integration as product needs evolve. \n

- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. \n
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience. \n
- Strong experience in software design, development, and debugging. \n
- Strong proficiency in C and C++. \n
- Experience with Make and CMake. \n
- Experience with Qt/QML or similar frameworks. \n
- Experience developing applications for Linux, iOS, Android, and/or Windows. \n
- Experience working with CAN bus. \n
- Experience with IoT technologies such as ThingsBoard, MQTT, Mender, or similar. \n
- Strong problem‑solving and communication skills. \n
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment. \n
- Experience with Zephyr or similar RTOS (bonus). \n
- Experience debugging hardware, using oscilloscopes and multimeters. \n
- Ability to read and understand electronic schematics. \n

- Experience with firmware development or low‑level embedded systems programming. \n
- Experience with hardware‑software integration and debugging in embedded environments. \n
- Experience with embedded Linux systems. \n
- Familiarity with bootloaders, firmware update mechanisms, and embedded security. \n
- Experience developing Linux kernel drivers. \n
- Experience bringing up new hardware from scratch. \n
- Experience with networking technologies such as Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, TCP/IP, and Ethernet. \n
- Familiarity with CI/CD and DevOps tools such as Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or similar. \n
- Familiarity with Docker or similar container technologies. \n
- Experience working in Agile development environments. \n
Technical, hands‑on position. On‑water testing of advanced prototypes and new products. Primarily working with the New Zealand team in the office, with occasional need to partner with colleagues abroad.
