Kaitohutohu Matua | Senior Advisor, Statutory Entities and Appointments An opportunity for a Senior Advisor to work across the Ministry’s priority workstreams at the intersection of governance, entity performance and Treaty issues. This job will suit an individual with high level problem-solving, numeracy and pattern recognition skills. Full time, permanent opportunity based in Te Tari Matua/National Office in Pōneke Wellington. This is a great opportunity if you are seeking to enhance your knowledge and understanding of how government works collaboratively with Crown and independent statutory entities to deliver better outcomes for Māori and all New Zealanders. You will be joining a passionate team of 3x Portfolio Leads, 1x Senior Advisor, 2x Senior Analysts, 2x Advisors and the Manager, Statutory Entities & Appointments who are dedicated to contributing to the Ministry's success. The Statutory Entities & Appointments team provides oversight and monitoring of Crown and Statutory Entities on behalf of the Minister for Māori Development. The team’s work has a focus on performance and governance and is delivered through three portfolio workstreams: Appointments, Nominations and Secretariat services and Performance Monitoring. Reporting to the Manager, Statutory Entities & Appointments, the Senior Advisor will work as part of the team across the three portfolio workstreams. This is an opportunity to contribute across a diverse portfolio and work on issues at the intersection of governance, public sector performance, ministerial priorities and Māori development. This role will focus on: Working closely with the Portfolio Leads to provide support with and lead (when needed) the workstream deliverables. Playing a key role in the Ministry’s secretariat service functions Supporting kaimahi with best practice governance activity and engagement. Supporting the team with monitoring, contract management and reporting/ accountability associated with Māori Wardens as well as other entities. The likely appointment range for the role is $105,100 - $116,777. The full range of the grade is $105,100 - $140,132 with mid-point being $116,777. Ko wai koe | About you As the successful candidate you will have: Excellent oral and written communications skills. Strong problem‑solving pattern recognition, numeracy and analytical skills, including the ability to identify issues, assess options and provide practical advice. The ability to learn fast, keep your eye on the ball, and adapt to quickly changing circumstances. An eye for detail, sound judgment and discretion. An understanding of the machinery of government, public sector or other complex organisational environment and governance processes. Understanding the relevance of the Treaty of Waitangi and Te Tiriti o Waitangi to the work being undertaken. A high level of personal integrity and courage. Proven ability to work with senior leaders from your own and other organisations. We recognise that strong candidates may bring different combinations of skills, knowledge and experience.
