About the Role Based in Newmarket, this is an exciting opportunity for a water quality professional to make a real impact on the health and wellbeing of Aucklanders. You'll work closely with operational teams, industry partners, and stakeholders across the business, providing specialist water quality expertise and helping drive continuous improvement in our drinking water services. This is a six‑month, fixed‑term opportunity until February 2027. Responsibilities Provide water quality science expertise and technical leadership to support Watercare’s water quality performance goals and customer outcomes. Analyse, interpret, and manage water quality data, monitoring systems, and associated programmes. Identify opportunities to improve and streamline drinking water processes, systems, and business practices. Support the delivery of safe, compliant drinking water through sound scientific advice and risk‑based decision making. Help build community understanding of water quality through education initiatives and engagement activities. Provide water quality insights, reporting, and performance metrics to customers and connected communities. Collaborate with operational teams and internal stakeholders to continuously improve water quality outcomes. Qualifications A tertiary qualification in Science, Biological Sciences, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field. Experience developing, analysing, and managing data collection systems and complex data sets. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information to a range of audiences. Knowledge of quality management systems, business continuity frameworks, or related operational systems. Strong problem‑solving skills and a continuous improvement mindset. The ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively across teams. An understanding of drinking water regulations and public health risk management.
