Brain Injury Nurse Specialist – Part‑Time ABI Rehabilitation is a leading service provider for clients with moderate to severe acquired brain injuries in the North Island. We have a vacancy for a qualified senior nurse for approximately 24 hours per week as a Brain Injury Nurse Specialist based in Rangitikei (Palmerston North preferred). The primary focus of this role is to assess patients and coordinate services to ensure timely transition from the hospital to intensive rehabilitation. This includes providing information and support to family‑whānau, liaising with ABI intensive services, and providing specialist advice to hospital staff. This role involves travel between regional hospitals in central and the lower North Island, so it would be well‑suited to someone with flexibility. The ideal candidate is someone who can easily build relationships with hospital staff and is proactive to ensure great outcomes for clients. ABI (Acquired Brain Injury) Rehabilitation provides specialist residential and community based rehabilitation. Responsibilities Assess patients in a neuro setting (e.g., Neurosurgery, Stroke, AT&R). Coordinate care transition from hospital to intensive rehabilitation. Provide information and support to family‑whānau. Liaise with ABI intensive services and provide specialist advice to hospital staff. Travel between regional hospitals as required. Qualifications At least three years’ experience in a neuro setting. Current Registered Nurse Annual Practicing Certificate. Advanced assessment and clinical reasoning skills. Preferred qualifications at postgraduate level. Expertise in managing interpersonal relationships across disciplines. Strong organisational and time‑management skills.
