Job Description

About the role We have a permanent vacancy for a Victim Adviser at the New Zealand Parole Board. Victim Advisers inform victims on the Victim Notification Register (VNR) about upcoming offender hearings and assist them to make submissions and participate in the parole process. They also call victims after hearings to let them know the Board's decision. Day‑to‑day responsibilities Contact victims before an upcoming hearing to inform them what to expect and how to participate. Notify victims promptly of the outcome of a hearing. Advise victims on local and national support services. Use the Parole Board Hearing System to manage all victim interactions and track upcoming victim events. Maintain networks with Department staff, government and non‑government agencies, community groups, and Court Victim Advisers. Liaise with Managers, the NZPB Chairperson, and Panel Convenors to address issues and risks. Collaborate with the Department's Victim Information team for victim contact details. Work with Hearing Managers and the Communications Manager for effective case management and communication. Qualifications and skills Experience communicating with victims of crime to convey complex and challenging information. Personal and professional resilience with the ability to maintain composure in high‑pressure situations. Well‑developed communication and listening skills, and confidence to engage with a variety of audiences. Ability to grow and maintain professional working relationships to support inter‑agency collaboration. Excellent organisational and time‑management skills, skilled and committed to ensuring quality and accuracy, tact, discretion and integrity. A relevant tertiary qualification, experience supporting victims of crime, and/or knowledge of trauma‑informed practice would also be advantageous. Salary The midpoint of the salary range is $89,225 per annum and the full range (85%–120%) is $75,842–$107,070 per annum.
