Business Insights Analyst - Workforce Analyst Christchurch, City Campus Permanent, Full-Time Deliver high-quality insights that support strategic, data-driven decision-making Design and develop impactful BI reporting using tools like Power BI, Excel, and SQL Analyse complex data, identify trends, risks, and opportunities Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi – About the Role Ara Institute of Canterbury is looking for a Business Insights Analyst to help turn complex information into meaningful workforce insights that support informed decision making across the organisation. This role plays an important part in helping Ara understand its workforce, plan for the future and make evidence-informed decisions that support both organisational performance and kaimahi (employee) experience. Working as part of our Business Insights team, you'll focus on workforce, People & Employment and organisational performance data, helping leaders better understand trends, opportunities and risks across Ara. Your work will support workforce planning, organisational effectiveness and the employee experience, ensuring decisions are informed by reliable evidence and clear analysis. This is a role for someone who enjoys exploring complex information, identifying patterns and trends, and turning data into practical insights that influence decision making. You'll analyse workforce and payroll data, develop dashboards and reports, support forecasting and scenario planning, and help stakeholders understand what the data is telling them and what actions it may support. You'll work closely with People & Culture, Finance, Payroll, ICT and other business areas to improve data quality, strengthen reporting capability and ensure workforce information is accessible, accurate and useful. As part of the wider Business Insights team, you'll contribute to organisation-wide projects involving data, reporting and systems improvement, while staying connected to sector developments and workforce trends relevant to tertiary education. Ngā Pūkenga Me Ngā Wheako – Skills and Experience We are looking for someone with strong analytical capability and a passion for turning data to actionable insights that inform strategy, strengthen performance and support organisational outcomes. You will bring: Three or more years’ experience in BI, data analysis or a closely related role Advanced Excel skills and solid SQL capability Demonstrated experience developing dashboards and reports in Power BI or similar tools Experience working with a range of corporate or academic datasets and KPIs Strong data storytelling skills, with the ability to present insights clearly and concisely A proactive, curious approach to problem solving and continuous improvement We will also value candidates who have experience working with People & Culture or HR data, including workforce metrics, payroll information or employee wellbeing insights, along with an understanding of New Zealand employment legislation and how it influences workforce reporting, compliance and payroll processes. Experience using HRIS or payroll systems, and an understanding of how workforce data is captured, managed and reported across an organisation, would also be beneficial. However, these are not essential, and we can support the right person to develop in these areas.
