Job Description
Overview Manager Portfolio Management (Financial Markets). Wellington or Auckland based role in a central location. 5 weeks annual leave and flexi-leave available. You will lead a high performing team and act as a subject matter expert on financial markets. The role supports the Reserve Bank - Te Pūtea Matua balance sheet and the effective operation of its participation in financial markets. You will work with senior leadership and the Financial Markets directorate to lead and develop the team, set clear strategic direction, and foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence. The Portfolio Management team executes transactions in wholesale financial markets on a day-to-day basis to implement monetary policy, support liquidity in the domestic banking sector, and manage the Reserve Bank’s portfolio of foreign reserves. You can read more about the work the team does in the role description. Responsibilities Lead and develop the Portfolio Management team and operate as a subject matter expert on financial markets. Foster operational excellence and a high-performing team culture. Provide deep financial markets expertise and apply it in practice. Set strategic direction and drive continuous improvement and operational excellence. Manage the Reserve Bank’s balance sheet and participate in wholesale financial markets to support policy objectives and liquidity. Collaborate with senior leadership and the managerial cohort within the Financial Markets directorate. Oversee daily transactions in wholesale markets to implement monetary policy and manage foreign reserves. Ō pūkenga – About you Experienced leader with a strong financial markets background. Proven ability to foster operational excellence and develop high-performing teams. In-depth understanding of financial markets with practical application experience. Excellent strategic thinking and future-focused perspective. Ability to build an engaged, inclusive, high-performing team culture. Proven leadership experience within financial markets or central banking. Excellent communication and relationship-management skills across all levels. Strong understanding of the role of a central bank in financial markets. Track record of coaching, mentoring and developing financial markets teams.
