Trainee Line Mechanic

We’re looking for a motivated Line Mechanic Trainee located on our Palmerston North Depot to undertake agreed training requirements and gain hands‑on experience installing and replacing line equipment and services on both overhead lines and underground cables. You’ll actively support Line Mechanics with fault repairs and network restoration, while building strong, long‑term customer relationships and supporting Horizon Networks’ reputation for excellent customer service and technical support. What You’ll Do Assist Line Mechanics with installation, maintenance, and fault restoration work Undertake on‑the‑job training and develop practical line mechanic skills Work safely on overhead lines, underground cables, and associated equipment Follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team Maintain a strong safety focus at all times Communicate clearly with team members and customers Work at heights and in confined spaces when required What We’re Looking For Minimum four years of secondary schooling with NCEA passes in Maths and English Working toward a Line Mechanic Level 4 qualification (National Certificate in Electricity Supply) First Aid Certificate Current unrestricted manual NZ driver licence Class 2 and/or class 4 licence desirable but not essential Basic knowledge of electrical practices Physically fit and able to work in demanding environments What’s in It for You Career development: working with a talented team, access to training resources Wellness benefits including health checks, flu jabs, EAP, and life and critical illness insurance Paid day off for your birthday and access to a range of corporate discounts A stable, well‑respected company making a real difference in the industry We’re Living Our SWITCH Values Sustainability — Investing in our future.
