Job Description

Speciality Clinical Nurse Gastroenterology Location: Wellington Regional Hospital Contract: 0.8 FTE Gastroenterology Specialty Clinical Nurse Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we’re building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau‑centred care, and excellence. About the Role An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated nurse to join our senior nursing gastroenterology team working in a new role – gastroenterology speciality clinical nurse (SCN). The SCN position is being established to oversee and coordinate the care of gastroenterology patients who have had a positive FIT (faecal immunochemical test) and be a key member of the Gastroenterology team. The FIT for symptomatic programme is being rolled out to enable better utilisation of endoscopy services, and the majority of symptomatic patients will be assessed via this pathway rather than via direct access colonoscopy. You will communicate with patients, manage and monitor the patient journey, and initiate diagnostics for a selected cohort of patients and grow your expertise in the FIT pathway. In the future it is anticipated that the FIT testing will be moved to primary care, however this is a permanent role that will remain within the service and continue to support the provision of high quality endoscopy services. We are looking for a nurse or two nurses with an interest in gastroenterology and endoscopy who are looking to broaden their nursing career. Comprehensive training and ongoing support will be provided. Ideally this role would be spread between two candidates, to allow continuous service delivery. This will be discussed in the interview process. About the Team/Service Location Our gastroenterology department provides regional and tertiary services for most aspects of gastroenterology. There is a strong nursing focus on endoscopy and interventional procedures for both adults and, periodically, children in inpatient and outpatient services. We also offer the opportunity to work across 2 sites – our main site in Wellington, and periodically Kenepuru. About you Current work visa/right to work in NZ Current Registered Nurse APC Excellent communication skills and be innovative and forward thinking You will hold or planning to work towards a relevant postgraduate qualification.
