Job Description
Overview Location: Ratonga Rua-o-Porirua Campus Contract: Permanent, Full Time (1 FTE), Rostered and Rotating About the Role The Occupational Therapy role is critical in the effective implementation of the service model of care. The nature of rehabilitation for clients necessitates active support, role modelling and coaching to help clients implement learned skills. The Occupational Therapist will provide assessment and intervention for clients in 1:1 and group settings. You will work with a group of Occupational Therapists and Occupational Therapy support workers across the Intellectual Disability Service. About the Team/Service The Intellectual Disability Secure Service has regional and national services, including Haumietiketike (regional adult secure forensic unit with 11 beds for males and females), the Step-Down Rehabilitative Cottages, Hikitia Te Wairua (national secure unit for young people), Rangatahi (Youth Acute Mental Health Inpatient Unit) and Nga Taiohi (National Secure Youth Forensic Unit). Manawai ISU is a national facility for adults with an intellectual disability and/or mental illness requiring long-term hospital-level care. RIDCAS is a regional community team providing consultation and liaison with mental health and disability contracts. Responsibilities Provide assessment and intervention for clients in 1:1 and group settings. Support implementation of the service model of care through active support, role modelling and coaching. Collaborate with a team of Occupational Therapists and OT support workers across the Intellectual Disability Service. About You Essential Professional Qualifications / Accreditations / Registrations NZ Registered Occupational Therapist with current annual practicing certificate. Member of Occupational Therapy New Zealand – Professional Association (desirable). Full driver’s licence. Experience in working with intellectual disability and mental health service users. Ability to work under guidance and according to treatment plans and guidelines developed. Ability to contribute effectively to a unit/team; strong written and verbal communication; excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Sensitive to the needs of service users, staff and the public; ability to maintain confidentiality; understanding of other cultures. Strong service user focus and understanding of and adherence to district aims and objectives. Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and improving outcomes for Māori; willingness to work collaboratively with other clinicians and deliver identified outcomes.
