Location: Wellington Regional Hospital Contract: This full time fixed term appointment will be for up to six months and will be worked on a rostered and rotating basis within Monday‑Friday clinic hours. About the Role We are seeking a Registered Nurse or Midwife to join our team at the Regional Termination of Pregnancy Service, Te Mahoe. The role will involve providing patient‑centred, culturally safe care, supporting people through personal decisions about their sexual and reproductive health, offering clear explanations of procedures, supporting emotional wellbeing, guiding people through each step of their care, and providing education about post‑abortion recovery. The nurse will also support people undergoing minor gynaecological procedures as part of the Day Unit for Women’s Clinics. Responsibilities Deliver culturally safe care to patients in the termination of pregnancy service. Explain procedures and support emotional wellbeing of patients. Guide patients through each step of their care and provide education about post‑abortion recovery. Provide care and support for people undergoing minor gynaecological procedures. Work mainly Monday‑Friday 08:00‑16:30, with up to one shift per week 07:00‑15:30. After orientation, hold after‑hours on‑call phone. Qualifications Registered Nurse or Midwife with a minimum of three years of relevant clinical experience, preferably in New Zealand. Hold a current Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) or Midwifery Council Annual Practising Certificate (APC). Legal right to work in New Zealand and available to commence employment within one month of appointment. Strong interest in women’s reproductive health. Preferred: certified in IV cannulation and able to administer IV sedation and opioid pain relief; support to attend the in‑house Safe Sedation Workshop. Post‑operative recovery, PACU, or surgical nursing experience is an advantage. Ability to work effectively within a small multidisciplinary team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability. Encouraged to join APGANZ and the Women’s Health College of NZNO. About the Team & Service Te Mahoe has a small multidisciplinary team of administrators, nurses, midwives, doctors, counsellors, social workers and a healthcare assistant. The team collaborates with Women’s Clinics staff to support individuals through minor gynaecological procedures. The environment is friendly, supportive, and collaborative.
