Job Description
Location Wellington Regional Hospital Contract Permanent, Full Time, 1FTE Salary MECA Step or $90,843–$110,290 About the Role This full‑time, permanent position is based at Wellington and Kenepuru Hospitals, supporting patients aged0‑15years and their whānau in outpatient and community settings across Wellington, Porirua and Kāpiti. The role provides psychosocial assessment and support for children following hospital discharge and helps remove barriers to their health care. You will also collaborate with paediatric inpatient social workers to support oncology patients and conduct child‑protection risk assessments and safety planning. The role may involve covering other inpatient areas at Wellington Hospital as needed and providing social work services on Saturdays on a roster, approximately3‑4times per year, with penal pay rates. Responsibilities Complete psychosocial assessments for children aged0‑15 and their whānau. Collaborate with the Child Health Multi‑Disciplinary Team and external agencies to improve health outcomes. Work alongside paediatric inpatient colleagues to support oncology patients. Conduct child‑protection risk assessments and develop safety plans with families. Provide coverage for other inpatient areas at Wellington Hospital as required. Deliver social work services on Saturdays on a roster base, approximately3‑4times per year, with penal pay rates. Qualifications & Experience NZ registered Social Worker with a current annual practising certificate. Minimum of3years social‑work practice. Ability to complete psychosocial needs assessment. Knowledge of legal requirements of health care and social work. Clear understanding of the health needs of Māori and Pacific Island communities. Therapeutic social‑work counselling experience (desirable). Previous work in a health setting and a good understanding of health social work (desirable). About the Team The team comprises23social workers based at Wellington Hospital, offering inpatient, outpatient and community services. You will be supported by Paediatric, Neonatal and Women’s Health Social Workers. About You You are passionate about supporting patients and whānau, work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, and possess excellent documentation, communication and time‑management skills. You understand grief, loss and adjustment in health contexts and demonstrate a commitment to TeTiriti oWaitangi—and you are motivated to serve diverse communities in a clinical setting.
