Senior Payroll Specialist

About the Role:
Reporting to the Associate Manager AP & Payroll, you will support end-to-end payroll activities across New Zealand and the US, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and a high level of employee support. Key responsibilities include:
- Manage NZ and US payroll processing, ensuring accurate and timely delivery.
- Maintain payroll data including starters, leavers, benefits, deductions, and leave.
- Validate payroll inputs including timesheets, commissions, bonuses, and other payments.
- Complete payroll reconciliations, investigate discrepancies, and support month-end processes.
- Partner with external payroll providers and PEO partners to ensure seamless payroll delivery.
- Provide payroll support and advice to employees and managers.
- Ensure compliance with NZ and US payroll legislation, policies, and best practice.
- Support payroll reporting, audits, process documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Assist with Finance activities including payroll journals, reconciliations, accounts payable, expenses, and credit card administration when required.
About you:
You are an experienced payroll professional with a strong focus on accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement. You enjoy solving problems, building relationships, and working autonomously in a fast-paced environment.
You will bring:
- 5+ years' payroll experience, ideally managing end-to-end payroll processes
- Strong knowledge of NZ payroll legislation and payroll practices
- US payroll experience is advantageous but not essential
- Accounts Payable experience is advantageous but not essential
- Experience with payroll systems, ERP platforms, and advanced Excel.
- Experience managing multi-jurisdiction payroll (NZ/US) is advantageous.
- Strong attention to detail with excellent problem-solving and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and build trusted relationships across the business.
- A proactive and self-motivated approach.
