Position: Senior Solicitor (12‑Month Fixed Term) – Wellington

\n

Salary: $118,390 – $143,639 + Kiwisaver + wellness benefits

About the Role\n

The Corporate and Registries team provides legal advice to all MBIE operations, including all 17 regulatory systems, and on governance, integrity and conduct matters. As a Senior Solicitor you will work across a broad range of subject areas, delivering high‑quality, timely advice and building your experience on diverse regulatory matters.

Responsibilities\n
    \n
  • Provide legal advice on a broad range of matters, including climate change, sustainability, future of work, building, employment and health & safety.
  • \n
  • Advise on occupational regulation functions and space matters, and work with government on issues such as space weather.
  • \n
  • Collaborate with other in‑house counsel to deliver effective solutions, working autonomously in a supportive environment.
  • \n
  • Exercise technical proficiency, agility, adaptability and strong communication skills to impact complex legal matters.
  • \n
  • Build and manage relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners.
  • \n
Qualifications\n
    \n
  • Tertiary qualification in law and a practising certificate
  • \n
  • Over 5 years' PQE
  • \n
  • Experience in public law and an understanding of the mechanisms of government
  • \n
  • Strong legal technical skills
  • \n
  • Well‑developed written and verbal communication abilities
  • \n
  • Ability to deliver successful outcomes in a demanding environment
  • \n
  • Strong relationship management skills and ability to work well with others
  • \n
  • Enthusiasm, drive and a proactive nature
  • \n
  • Experience working in one or more of MBIE's 17 regulatory systems
  • \n
  • Experience on governance, integrity and conduct matters and/or regulatory compliance and enforcement
