Director of Education – Nelson, Marlborough, West Coast

This is a permanent role based in Nelson with responsibility for the Nelson, Marlborough and West Coast regions. The role focuses on leading the delivery of Ministry of Education services across the region, shaping an education system that enables every learner to succeed. The Director will champion collaboration, influence strategic direction, and ensure that regional outcomes align with the Government's education priorities.

• Lead the delivery of Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga services across the region.
\n
• Bring together the Ministry, education providers and the wider sector to drive coordinated, high‑impact outcomes.
\n
• Champion collaboration and influence strategic direction to achieve regional performance goals.
\n
• Develop and implement locally informed solutions that lift achievement, strengthen equity and create lasting change for tamariki and rangatahi.
\n
• Serve as the integration point for funding, regulation, change management and good practice, ensuring that operational practices are efficient and sustainable.

• Extensive experience as a senior leader within a large, complex organisation, preferably in service delivery.
\n
• A proven track record in change leadership and the successful implementation and management of multiple diverse programmes and services.
\n
• Understanding of the levers and challenges of educational achievement.
\n
• Proven ability to work with and deliver equitable outcomes for Māori, Pacific peoples and people with special education needs.
\n
• Highly developed engagement and communication skills.
\n
• Demonstrated ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
\n
• Willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
\n

The successful candidate will preferably be located in the Nelson, Marlborough or West Coast regions. Salary is based on skills and experience.
