Job Description
About the Role The Department of Gastroenterology at Middlemore Hospital invites applications for a Gastroenterologist. This is a fixed‑term position covering a sabbatical leave (between July 2026 and January 2027). The start date and hours are negotiable. Middlemore Hospital is an accredited, 800‑bed teaching hospital of Auckland University and the main acute medicine centre for a region of over 550,000 people. Our Department of Gastroenterology currently operates four endoscopy procedure rooms and offers a large volume of outpatient services and on‑site gastroenterology diagnostic services. The Service provides high‑quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching with an active research program. You will work within a team of 17 other Gastroenterologists. Salary and conditions of service will be in accordance with the New Zealand ASMS Award Agreement. Responsibilities Endoscopy procedures Acute general gastroenterology care on the gastroenterology ward Out of hours gastroenterology roster Contribution to outpatient clinics About you We are seeking a colleague who strives to advance the gastroenterology department, particularly the Hepatology service. Applicants must have suitable training and experience in Gastroenterology and should be registered with the New Zealand Medical Council. Location Middlemore Hospital, South Auckland.
