About the role We're looking for a Senior Chartered Accountant to join our Nelson team working across Business Advisory and Tax. You'll take ownership of a portfolio of clients, deliver high‑quality annual compliance and tax advice while also supporting business advisory work. You will assist with coaching and reviewing the work of other team members and contribute to the delivery of excellent client experiences. Key Responsibilities Prepare and review annual financial statements and income tax returns for a range of entities Deliver tax advisory and support, management reporting and client‑ready recommendations Manage and grow client relationships – communicate clearly, anticipate needs and deliver on time with attention to detail Coach, review and support the development of junior and intermediate accountants What we’ll offer Competitive remuneration, tailored to your experience A supportive, inclusive culture with a strong focus on wellbeing and flexibility Structured learning and development, including technical tax training and support to maintain your CA membership Interesting client work across industries, with opportunities to get involved in advisory projects A clear pathway for progression and the chance to make a real impact in our Nelson community What BDO is looking for CA qualified (or equivalent) with solid experience in an NZ public practice environment Proven capability across income tax compliance and a strong working knowledge of NZ tax (including GST and provisional tax) Strong review skills with the ability to ensure quality, accuracy and consistency across files Excellent relationship and communication skills—comfortable dealing directly with business owners and key decision makers A proactive, collaborative approach and an interest in mentoring others An understanding and ability to use AI support tools You must be currently in New Zealand and have the right to work permanently to apply.
