Civil Construction Team Leader / 2IC Are you ready for your next step? Tradestaff is recruiting on behalf of a long-standing client for a Team Leader / 2IC to join their business in a key leadership role. This is more than just a foreman position. You'll be the second-in-charge, working closely with the Operations Manager to help lead the day-to-day running of the business. You'll still spend time on the tools, but you'll also help coordinate crews, support clients, organise resources and keep projects moving. This is a long-term opportunity with a well-established, family-owned contractor that delivers work across civil construction, vegetation management, traffic management and infrastructure maintenance. They have built a strong reputation for quality work, practical leadership and looking after their people. The Role You’ll lead small crews of 5 to 8 people, some working on civil construction projects, others completing vegetation maintenance and infrastructure work. Projects include: Footpath construction Kerb and channel work Cobblestone installation Retaining walls Bus shelter construction Park furniture installation Streetscape upgrades Vegetation maintenance General civil maintenance works As the 2IC, you’ll also help with the wider operation of the business by: Supporting the day-to-day management of field staff Planning and coordinating crews, equipment and resources Building strong relationships with clients and contractors Representing the business professionally on site Reading plans and ensuring work is completed to specification Working within council requirements and resource consents Keeping projects on programme and resolving issues as they arise Helping maintain high standards of health and safety What We’re Looking For We’re looking for someone who enjoys leading from the front and is equally comfortable operating machinery, managing people and solving problems. You’ll ideally have experience in: Leading civil construction or vegetation crews Concrete and streetscape construction Council or local government contracts Traffic management environments Vegetation or infrastructure maintenance Running multiple jobs at the same time Reading plans and interpreting specifications You’ll also be: Mechanically minded Confident working around tractors, vehicles and civil equipment Well organised Calm under pressure A strong communicator with clients and staff Someone who takes ownership and enjoys responsibility Licences & Tickets Minimum requirements: Class 1 driver's licence WTR endorsements Experience operating excavators, particularly around underground services Desirable: Class 2 driver's licence STMS A or B Experience with traffic management Arboriculture or vegetation management experience Training can be provided for the right person. Working Hours Flexibility is important. Most work is completed during normal business hours, however some night work and weekend work is required. You’ll also need to be available to support crews when operational issues arise.
