We are seeking a motivated and versatile MedicalLaboratory Technician (MLT) to join our busy laboratory team at Te Nikau Hospital on a fixed-term maternity cover basis. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of high-quality laboratory services that support patient care across the West Coast region.

Working as part of a collaborative and supportive team, you will perform a variety of pre-analytical, phlebotomy, and laboratory duties while ensuring high standards of quality, accuracy, and patient service.

About the Role

As a Medical Laboratory Technician, you will play an integral role in supporting the laboratory's daily operations. Your responsibilities will include:

• Receiving, registering, and preparing samples for testing and distribution within the laboratory and to external laboratories.
\n
• Performing phlebotomy and associated patient services duties.
\n
• Undertaking laboratory analysis and testing of samples.
\n
• Monitoring and recognising normal and abnormal results and escalating concerns appropriately.
\n
• Identifying and addressing machine or technical irregularities, notifying the Laboratory Manager or Technical Specialist as required.
\n
• Ensuring all work is completed in accordance with laboratory procedures, policies, and quality standards.
\n
• Participating in quality assurance programmes and continuous improvement activities.
\n
• Providing exceptional service to patients, clinicians, and other stakeholders.
\n

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

\n
• Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC), or be working towards MLT/ML-PAT registration.
\n
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
\n
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
\n
• The ability to work independently and prioritise competing demands.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
\n
• A commitment to teamwork and delivering high-quality patient-focused services.

• Previous healthcare or laboratory experience.
