We have an exciting fixed-term full-time opportunity for an experienced Credit Controller to join our Financial Operations team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing financial accuracy with customer-focused problem solving and is passionate about achieving positive outcomes for both the Council and the community. The fixed term is through to 18 December 2026. Āu ake mahi | What you'll do As a Credit Controller, you will play a key role in monitoring credit exposure across Council, minimising bad debt risk and supporting the collection of outstanding accounts. Working closely with internal teams and customers you will ensure Council revenue is collected efficiently, while maintaining strong relationships and delivering exceptional service. This is a varied role that combines credit control expertise, financial administration, reporting and stakeholder engagement. Your key responsibilities will be to: Manage the collection of outstanding debts, including rates and water rates, in line with Council policies and procedures Monitor and minimise credit risk across the organisation, process credit notes and additional billings, negotiate payment arrangements, maintain accurate financial records, and prepare monthly financial reporting. You will also work collaboratively with internal teams and external customers to improve revenue processes, deliver excellent customer service, communicate effectively about outstanding accounts and payment options, and achieve positive payment outcomes while maintaining strong stakeholder relationships. Ngā tohu me ngā wheako | Qualifications and experience You will have experience in credit control, accounts receivable, collections, or debt recovery, with a strong understanding of debt recovery practices and relevant legislation. You are highly organised, analytical, and customer-focused, with strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. You'll be confident using financial systems and Microsoft Office applications, with sound numerical and reconciliation abilities. A relevant finance, accounting, or commerce qualification is desirable, or equivalent experience in a high-volume transactional finance environment. Experience in local government and systems such as Technology One or Pathway would be an advantage. We are looking to appoint between $69,558 and $81,832 per annum, pro rata, for this role, depending on relevant skills and experience.
