Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Gardener to be responsible for maintaining and developing a beautiful 3‑acre private garden in Wiltshire. This part‑time role, working 3 or 4 days per week with 8‑hour working days, is suitable for a knowledgeable and enthusiastic horticulturist who enjoys working in a peaceful private garden environment and takes pride in their work. The garden features a mix of formal and productive areas, including a traditional walled vegetable garden, box and yew hedging, large fruit cage, greenhouses, climbing and shrub roses, herbaceous borders, wildlife pond, rill and expansive lawn areas. The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining these varied garden spaces, ensuring they remain healthy, attractive and well‑presented throughout the year. Responsibilities Assist the owners with the ongoing maintenance and development of the garden, carrying out a broad range of seasonal horticultural tasks. Plant and maintain herbaceous borders, care for roses, prune shrubs, manage lawns and maintain hedges. Propagate plants from seed and cuttings, assist with greenhouse work and support the production of fruit and vegetables for the household. Qualifications Previous experience working within a private garden, estate garden or country house garden. Practical gardening skills and good all‑round plant knowledge. Strong attention to detail and the ability to work carefully and independently. Preferred Recognised horticultural qualification such as RHS, City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent. Interest in plants, propagation and productive gardening. Full clean driving licence; chainsaw qualifications such as CS30/31 would be an advantage. Working hours: 3 or 4 working days per week during weekdays, 8‑hour days.
