About the Summer Student Programme Our 2026 Summer Student Programme offers a 3–4 month, full‑time, fixed‑term opportunity for students wanting to gain meaningful, real‑world experience at Environment Canterbury. We offer a range of placements across our organisation for tertiary students who are currently studying or have recently graduated. Job Type: Summer Student Location: Christchurch, New Zealand Job Category: Environmental Services About the Role The Public Transport team is seeking two enthusiastic Summer Students to support a variety of transport planning, research, customer experience, and marketing initiatives over the summer period. These hands‑on roles offer a unique opportunity to gain practical experience while contributing to projects that shape public transport across Canterbury. Working closely with the team, you will support a range of activities both in the office and out in the field, assisting with research, engaging with customers and stakeholders, gathering insights, and helping deliver initiatives that improve the public transport experience for our community. You’ll be pitching in on ‘business as usual’ work while also being given specific projects, with the goal of giving you broad experience in the public transport environment. The role will be based at Environment Canterbury’s Tuam Street office, with regular field work likely. Key Responsibilities Supporting projects, analysis, or fieldwork relevant to your placement area Assisting with research, data collection, reporting, or administration Working collaboratively with team members and other summer students Applying theoretical knowledge to real‑world challenges Contributing to a positive, inclusive, and safety‑focused workplace About You You are currently studying or have recently graduated from a tertiary qualification (degree or diploma) in transport engineering, geography, marketing, or any other analytical discipline. You are an engaged student who thrives in collaboration, looking to gain experience in the transport sector, marketing roles, or research. You bring a positive attitude, a willingness to ask questions, and an interest in the work we do at Environment Canterbury.
