Recovery Support Worker - Peer Support

About the Role As a Peer Support Specialist, you will use your lived experience of addiction and recovery to walk alongside tangata whaiora on their journey toward wellbeing. Working as part of the Springhill residential addiction service, you’ll provide one on one peer support at key stages of the recovery journey and facilitate group sessions that foster connection, shared understanding, and growth. Through your work, you’ll model the key principles of recovery – connectedness, hope, identity, meaning and empowerment – supporting people to become active participants in their own recovery. This is a meaningful opportunity to be part of a service delivering high-quality, recovery-focused intervention. You’ll build authentic, trust-based relationships, advocate for tangata whaiora, and support them to reconnect with their whānau, community, and sense of purpose. Your lived experience and perspective will be valued as an essential part of a collaborative and supportive multidisciplinary team. About the Team/Service/Location Our Springhill Centre team is part of the wider Mental Health and Addiction Service in Te Matau a Māui Hawkes Bay. We are a small, dynamic and supportive multidisciplinary team delivering residential addiction treatment and recovery-focused care to tangata whaiora and their whānau. About you As a Peer Support Specialist, you bring authenticity, empathy, and a strong understanding of recovery, along with: Lived experience of addiction and recovery, including residential treatment, with at least two years in recovery Experience or training in peer support or a related mental health/addiction setting A relevant qualification (e.g. Level 4 Health & Wellbeing) or willingness to work towards this Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage across diverse cultures, including Māori and Pasifika communities Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a small, dynamic multidisciplinary team Working at Health New Zealand Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.
