About The Role: As our Network Design & Operations Engineer, you'll play a key role in designing, maintaining and continuously improving the active network that connects more than 249,000 homes and businesses across Aotearoa. Reporting to the Network Engineering Manager, you'll work across design, operations and implementation, collaborating with teams throughout the business to deliver reliable, scalable and innovative network solutions. This is a varied role where you'll combine technical expertise with problem solving, stakeholder engagement and continuous improvement. You'll have the opportunity to influence the evolution of our network while working alongside a highly skilled engineering team. Day-to-day responsibilities: Design and produce detailed network implementation and operational documentation for new initiatives and network enhancements. Support the ongoing performance, reliability and capacity of Tuatahi's active network. Lead technical investigations and provide senior engineering support for complex network issues. Collaborate with Architecture, Planning, Build and Operations teams to deliver network projects. Work closely with Retail Service Providers and internal stakeholders to provide technical expertise and customer support. Identify opportunities to automate processes and improve network performance and operational efficiency. Ensure network designs meet regulatory requirements and industry standards. Mentor team members and contribute to building technical capability across the wider organisation. Skills and Experience Required: You'll be an experienced network engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges and working collaboratively across multiple disciplines. Ideally you'll bring: At least five years’ experience in network design, preferably within telecommunications. Strong knowledge of Layer 1 and Layer 2 networking principles. Experience designing carrier or wholesale networks using technologies such as xPON, MPLS, VXLAN-EVPN or similar. Experience producing high-quality technical documentation, including logical and physical network designs. An understanding of the New Zealand telecommunications environment. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities. Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
