Senior Transport Planner

Te Whiwhinga mahi- The Opportunity – Senior Transport Planner This role supports the Integrated Network Planning team by producing key content for a set of innovative and customer-focused integrated strategic transport documents to guide the development of Auckland’s future transport system. Key tasks will include: Producing content for AT’s strategic network plans, policies and bylaws Leading development of some pieces of work Working to get understanding and buy-in for our plans and strategies Leading or assisting the provision of high-quality strategic transport advice to decision makers Model key behaviour, including responsiveness, critical thinking, use of evidence Supporting the leadership of the team and group Working to raise the profile of the team and group Develop and maintain effective relationships within AT and key partners Be responsive to key stakeholder enquiries and engaging proactively with key stakeholders Nă tāu rourou | What will you bring? Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or related field, and/or post graduate qualifications. 5 years’ experience in transport planning, Collaborative working style, Driven to achieve outcomes and make a difference. Public sector experience, Experience working in a large, complex organisation, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) skills. Our Organisation How the Transport Reform Programme impacts this role: Auckland is entering a new chapter in how transport is planned, delivered, and experienced. The Transport Reform Programme, formalised in May 2026, will see some Auckland Transport functions moving to Auckland Council and AT becoming more focused on public transport. As part of these changes, this role is proposed toshift to Auckland Councilfollowing transition. Candidates progressing through the process will receive further information on the proposed changes. If successful, any offer will be conditional on acknowledgement of these proposed changes, should the proposal proceed.
