Job Description
Court Registry Officer, Family Court Registry – Christchurch District Court (fixed term, full time until 30 June 2027) Te Haeata / The Opportunity As a Court Registry Officer, you are an important cog in the justice machine. You will work with a team responsible for the successful operation of the Court and liaise with multiple stakeholders including members of the judiciary, lawyers, and the public. Your primary role will be court taking – this is the running of the court. This includes opening court sessions (in English and TeReo Māori), working closely with the judiciary in the courtroom and in chambers, and general administration of the court. The Ministry is undertaking a significant change project known as TeAuReka to introduce a digital casefile and workflow solution to our courts and tribunals. This is potentially the biggest transformative change to the courts ever over the next few years. These fixed‑term positions are to specifically support our team's capacity through preparation for and implementation of that new solution. Ō pūkenga / Skills and Experience Resilient – there are times when working in the courts you will be handling sensitive cases and often working at high volumes and a fast pace. Detail orientated and observant – the court has many different processes and case information needs to be accurate. Self‑aware – you'll understand our customers and be confident working across a range of situations with maturity and positivity. Multi‑task – you'll manage conflicting priorities and move quickly from one task to another. Willing to learn – legislation and processes in the court are always changing, and you will adapt and respond to feedback. You’ll be an excellent communicator with good English and confident TeReoMāori pronunciation. Confidence using audio‑visual equipment is also desirable. You enjoy helping others – you're flexible, calm, and not deterred by the busy courtroom environment.
