Job Description

HDPS Engineering, part of Heavy Diesel Parts and Services (HDPS) , is seeking an experienced Engineering Foreman to join our Christchurch-based team in a unique and varied role within the transport industry. As a proudly Canterbury-owned business established in 1997, HDPS is a trusted dealer for Kenworth and DAF trucks and a full-service dealer for Cummins engines . We operate modern workshops, support premium brands, and are committed to providing exceptional service to our customers while investing in the ongoing development of our people. About the Role Lead. Fabricate. Deliver. This is a hands-on leadership position where you'll lead a small team while remaining actively involved on the workshop floor. Approximately 50% of your time will be spent supervising and mentoring staff, with the remainder focused on fabrication, repairs, modifications, and truck fit-outs. No two days are the same. You'll work on a diverse range of projects including: New truck preparation and fit-outs Truck and trailer repairs and modifications Installation of turntables, chrome exhausts, guards, and accessories Building custom toolboxes and stainless-steel components Body swaps and structural modifications Crack repairs, gusseting, cross-member replacements, and deck repairs LT400-certified welding work General engineering and fabrication projects across transport equipment What We’re Looking For You will be a highly skilled tradesperson with strong leadership abilities and a practical, can-do approach. You'll be comfortable leading from the front, maintaining high workmanship standards, and ensuring jobs are completed safely, efficiently, and on time. Essential Skills & Experience Ability to lead, motivate, and mentor a small team Experience in light to medium fabrication Current LT400 Welding Certification (formerly 4711) or equivalent High-standard steel MIG welding experience High-standard aluminium MIG welding experience High-standard stainless steel and aluminium TIG welding experience Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret, design, and fabricate solutions Knowledge and experience operating a press brake Ability to work across a wide variety of engineering tasks Strong attention to detail, particularly when working on new equipment Ability to meet deadlines and work overtime when required Advantageous Qualifications F Endorsement Class 4 and/or Class 5 licence Why Join HDPS?
