Wellington based | Permanent | Full-time 4.8 weeks annual leave | Wellness allowance after 12 months Lead the science behind better health outcomes for New Zealanders. Midpoint of$167,029, dependent on experience What you will do Lead a high‑performing Health Science team, providing strategic direction, people leadership, and oversight of health science, research, and library services. Support evidence‑informed decision‑making by embedding scientific expertise and robust evidence across policy, regulatory, and operational work. Support the Chief Science Advisor in shaping health research priorities and system leadership, influencing the Ministry's approach to research and strengthening connections across government and the wider research sector. Lead complex programmes of work, delivering Government and Ministry priorities while managing risks, resources, and performance. Build trusted partnerships and foster an inclusive culture, collaborating across the Ministry, health sector, government, and stakeholders while upholding TeTiriti o Waitangi commitments. What you will bring Advanced expertise in health science, research, or a related field, with strong knowledge of health systems and evidence‑based practice. Proven people‑leadership experience, with the ability to develop high‑performing teams and deliver strategic outcomes. Strong understanding of research systems, science advisory functions, and translating evidence into policy and practice. Exceptional communication, influencing, and relationship‑management skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders and decision‑makers. Strategic thinking, sound judgement, and resilience, with a commitment to TeTiriti o Waitangi and leading through complexity and change.
