About the Role We currently have a permanent full-time (1.0 FTE) Allied Health Assistant position available within the inpatient rehabilitation wards at Waitakere Hospital. In this role you will work within both older adult rehabilitation and the adult Integrated Stroke Unit. You will provide therapy, motivation and support to a variety of adult patients, carrying out a range of tasks and activities to support them in their rehabilitation journey. This role involves working with an interdisciplinary team, supporting and assisting Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists and Speech Language Therapists. You will carry out prescribed rehabilitation programmes with patients in the therapy gym or on the wards, under the guidance of the interdisciplinary team. These programmes will be individually tailored to the patient and will focus on the patient’s goals, and may be completed with therapists, in a group session, or one-to-one. The programmes may include supporting patients with exercises or activities to improve their day‑to‑day function, independence and communication. Examples of tasks may include helping a patient make breakfast by themselves again, doing balance and strength exercises, or engaging in supported conversation in a group session. You will also support equipment provision as guided by therapists. Key Responsibilities Assist with the delivery of prescribed rehabilitation programmes for older adult and stroke patients. Support patients in performing exercises and activities to improve day‑to‑day function and independence. Assist in setting up and maintaining equipment in line with therapy plans. Work collaboratively with physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech‑language therapists and other multidisciplinary team members. Provide motivation and encouragement to patients to achieve their rehabilitative goals. Qualifications & Requirements Previous experience working in a health environment, preferably in rehabilitation. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong time‑management and proactive approach. Ability to work Monday to Friday (7:30 am‑4:00 pm or 8:00 am‑4:30 pm). Current full‑NZ Driver’s licence (preferred). About the Team/Service/Location The allied health inpatient rehabilitation team works in a ward setting, alongside nurses, doctors, pharmacists, dietitians, and social workers, providing rehabilitation for people following an acute medical event (stroke, fracture, amputation or medical illness).
