Health Care Assistant – Renal Service | Palmerston North Hospital | Permanent Part Time (0.6 FTE) Benefits An encouraging learning environment where you will continue to grow and be challenged A professional and supportive culture and team setting Fulfilling and challenging work with great lifestyle options Tailored wellness programmes About the Role As a Health Care Assistant within the Renal Service, you will support nursing staff in providing safe, high‑quality patient care for people receiving haemodialysis treatment. Your role will include assisting with patient comfort and wellbeing, preparing refreshments, monitoring and recording patient weights, responding to patient needs, maintaining treatment areas, and supporting the smooth day‑to‑day operation of the dialysis unit. You will work closely with registered nurses and other healthcare professionals to ensure patients receive compassionate, respectful care in a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. This role offers the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with patients who attend the service regularly as part of their long‑term treatment journey. About You Proven ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team Strong communication and interpersonal skills Understanding of infection prevention and control practices Ability to work independently and use initiative when required Basic computer skills An empathetic approach and understanding of the needs of patients with chronic health conditions Advantageous Experience Previous experience in a healthcare, caregiving, or support role Experience working with people living with chronic illnesses Completion of a Caregiver or related healthcare qualification Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application within healthcare settings About the Team/Service The Renal Service provides specialist care and support for patients with kidney disease across the MidCentral region.
