Clinical Nurse Specialist, Hawera Hospital : Permanent Part time 0.8 FTE The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) provides advanced clinical nursing expertise within the Rural Emergency Department, delivering high-quality, evidence-based, patient‑centred care. The CNS supports the assessment, management and coordination of patients with complex and acute healthcare needs while promoting excellence in clinical practice, education, quality improvement and leadership. Working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team, the CNS contributes to improving patient outcomes, enhancing staff capability and ensuring safe, timely access to emergency care for the rural community. About the Role The Clinical Nurse specialist will: Deliver advanced nursing assessment, clinical decision‑making and management of patients presenting with acute illness and injury. Provide expert clinical consultation and support to nursing and medical staff. Facilitate timely patient flow through the Emergency Department. Promote evidence‑based practice and adherence to clinical guidelines. Act as a clinical leader and positive role model within the department. Promote a culture of professionalism, collaboration and continuous improvement. Support implementation of new models of care and service developments. Participate in departmental governance, policy development and clinical decision‑making Provide bedside teaching, coaching and mentoring to nursing staff, graduate nurses and students. Support competency assessment and professional development. Identify learning needs and contribute to departmental education programmes. Encourage reflective practice and lifelong learning. Please click here to view the position description About the Team/Service/Location Hawera Hospital is an accredited level three rural hospital in South Taranaki. It is a one‑hour drive from New Plymouth and is situated 71.3 kilometers from Taranaki Base Hospital; the main regional hospital of Taranaki District Health Board. Hawera Hospital provides essential services to the people of South Taranaki. The inpatient services provided by this hospital includes 24‑hour emergency care from a rural emergency department and medical and AT & R care from an inpatient ward. Current PDRP proficient or above Post graduate qualification or working towards. - A relevant postgraduate qualification is preferred; however, applicants who are currently working towards the Clinical Nurse Specialist qualification will be considered. 5 years recent experience in an emergency department.
