Nursery Technician - Fixed Term

Parental leave cover – September 2026 – April 2027 Commercial oyster operations Nelson based With a fixed-term capacity to cover a team member heading off on parental leave, this is a great opportunity for a passionate aquaculture professional to join and support our Pacific oyster hatchery and nursery operations in Nelson in 2026. Working as part of a small team you will have a genuine interest and knowledge of shellfish in a nursery environment. Previous practical work experience would be beneficial. You must be hard-working, process oriented and committed to delivering a high standard of work. A team player, your reputation as an honest, down to earth person will precede you. No job will be too small or big, and you will be comfortable working both autonomously and collaborating with others. You must be an effective communicator, paying particular attention to detail and taking pride in both your work and being part of a high achieving team. Key Responsibilities Support daily oyster nursery and pond operations. Spat grading. Biosecurity practises and monitoring. Systems maintenance, cleaning, and general housekeeping. Pond algae production. Support general hatchery operations, including broodstock husbandry, algae production, spawning and early life‑stage rearing.
