Be quick‑thinking and confident in solving problems, with the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Be able to focus for long periods of time. Be a capable swimmer who can remain calm and focused under pressure. Community involvement matters – this could be being part of a sports team, club, school or community group, coaching or volunteering. First Aid Certificate: If you do not already hold a current First Aid Certificate, you must obtain one at your own cost prior to commencing employment with us. Not sure you’re ready for the swim test? No problem – we’re happy to support you with tips and practice to get you there! We’ve attached a copy of the swim test requirements to the position description, click the link at the foot of the page. Important parts of the process If your application meets the initial criteria, you will be invited to complete a swim test (this is mandatory). Swim tests will be held at Parakiore Recreation & Sports Centre in late July and early August. If you pass the swim test we will contact you to discuss the next steps in the process. As swim test slots are set ahead of time, we may not be able to offer flexibility with dates. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a group‑style assessment centre interview, which will be held on Thursday 13 August 2026 (subject to change) at Te Hāpua Halswell Centre. Morning and afternoon sessions will be available. We are unable to accommodate interviews outside of these times. If successful after the assessment centre interview, you will be required to attend Pool Lifeguard Skills Award (PLSA) training on 24 & 25 August 2026, with the final assessment taking place on 31 August 2026. The cost of these courses is covered by Christchurch City Council. If you already hold a current PLPC you will not need to attend the final assessment day. Police & Health Checks: This role is subject to satisfactory police vetting and a pre‑employment health assessment. Health checks will take place during the week of 17‑22 August 2026. Positions Available: 32 Hour Lifeguard – 32 hours/week Tuesday 5:00am–1:30pm Friday 5:00am–1:30pm Saturday 6:30am–3:00pm Full‑Time Lifeguard – 40 hours/week Tuesday 1:15pm–9:45pm Thursday 1:15pm–9:45pm Sunday 12:00pm–8:30pm Monday 1:15pm–9:45pm *Women’s only shift. Alternative arrangements can be made for male candidates. Network Lifeguard – 40 hours/week Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Monday 8‑hour shifts Graham Condon Recreation & Sports Centre Full‑Time Lifeguard – 40 hours/week Tuesday 5:00am–1:30pm Thursday 5:00am–1:30pm Friday 8:30am–5:00pm Monday 5:00am–1:30pm Hybrid Supervisor/Lifeguard – 32 hours/week Thursday 1:00pm–9:30pm (Lifeguard) Friday 1:15pm–9:45pm (Aquatic Supervisor) Saturday 12:00pm–8:30pm (Aquatic Supervisor) Network Lifeguard – 40 hours/week Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Monday 8‑hour shifts Parakiore Recreation & Sports Centre Full‑Time Lifeguard – 40 hours/week Tuesday 5:00am–1:30pm Thursday 7:00am–3:30pm Friday 1:30pm–10:00pm Saturday 12:00pm–8:30pm Other Part‑Time Opportunities We also have multiple part‑time Lifeguard opportunities available across our aquatic network.
