Our Waihi Operation in the North Island of New Zealand is an underground gold mine. A recent consent for the Waihi North Project, a new mine to be developed 6km north of the existing operation has provided a long-term extension of mine life providing our 400 staff and contractors, and the people of Waihi, an assurance that we plan to be here for the long-term.

Job Description

As part of the Waihi North Project team, the purpose of this role is to manage and coordinate Structural, Mechanical and Piping (SMP) project activities from planning through execution and handover. The position is responsible for ensuring SMP works are delivered safely, to specification, on schedule and within budget, while coordinating contractors, engineering interfaces, procurement inputs, construction activities and commissioning support in alignment with project and operational requirements.

Key responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate and oversee SMP project activities across engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning phases.
  • Review designs, drawings, specifications and scopes of work to ensure constructability, technical compliance and alignment with project objectives.
  • Coordinate interfaces between structural, mechanical, piping, civil, electrical and operational teams to support efficient project delivery.
  • Monitor SMP construction and installation activities to ensure works are completed safely, to required quality standards and in accordance with approved scope.
  • Support development of construction work packs, installation methodologies, lift studies, shutdown plans and tie-in strategies where required.
  • Manage contractor and vendor activities on site, including coordination of access, sequencing, work fronts and resolution of field issues.
  • Participate in risk assessments, constructability reviews, HAZID/HAZOP actions and implementation of controls relevant to SMP works.
  • Contribute to development and maintenance of detailed SMP schedules and execution plans for assigned project scopes.
  • Provide timely reporting on progress, quantities, forecast completion dates and emerging risks to the Project Manager.
  • Coordinate technical queries, field change requests, non-conformance reports and close-out of engineering and construction actions.
  • Develop working relationships with the Site Operations Team, to enable longer term working relationships between Project teams to grow.
  • Perform all work and associated functions safely.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Project management, site safety or construction management training is highly regarded.
  • Competence in contract administration, technical documentation and contractor supervision is highly regarded.
  • At least 5 years' experience in project engineering, construction or site execution roles involving structural, mechanical and piping scopes.
  • Demonstrated experience managing contractors, coordinating multidisciplinary interfaces and delivering brownfield or greenfield capital projects in an industrial environment.
  • Experience in management of contractor workforces
