Civil Constuction Surveyor (2-year fixed term contract)

Our Waihi Operation in the North Island of New Zealand is an underground gold mine. A recent consent for the Waihi North Project, a new mine to be developed 6km north of the existing operation has provided a long-term extension of mine life providing our 400 staff and contractors, and the people of Waihi, an assurance that we plan to be here for the long-term.
Job Description
The primary focus is to provide accurate and timely civil construction survey services for the Waihi North Project, supporting the safe and efficient delivery of the tailings storage facility enabling works and associated project infrastructure. Additional support maybe required for the construction of Willows Surface Facilities Area, box cut and portal works, waste rock stack, access roads, drainage and sediment control infrastructure, Water Treatment Plant upgrade interfaces, 33kV power infrastructure.
Key responsibilities:
- Undertake survey set-out and verification for Waihi North Project civil construction works.
- Establish, maintain and verify survey control networks, benchmarks and construction control across multiple Waihi North Project work fronts.
- Capture field survey data for progress measurement, quality verification, conformance checks, environmental control verification and as-built records.
- Prepare and check survey information, drawings, models and data files received from the designer for construction teams, subcontractors and machine control systems, including earthworks models, trench alignments, roadworks, drainage structures, services installation, Property boundaries.
- Undertake quantity and volume calculations for cut/fill, stockpiles, embankments, excavations, backfill, trenching, foundations, waste rock stack placement, and progress claims as required.
- Verify construction tolerances and provide survey support for hold points, quality inspections, compaction testing locations, drainage tie-ins, services clearances, survey pickups and as-built deliverables.
- Maintain survey instruments, equipment, software, data collectors and accessories in good working order.
- Coordinate equipment calibration, checks and servicing to ensure survey accuracy and reliability.
- Prepare survey reports, as-built drawings, progress quantities, volume reports, conformance records and construction verification records for Waihi North Project work packages.
- Provide accurate survey data to support project reporting, quality assurance, commercial assessment, progress measurement, environmental compliance, construction planning and handover..
- Perform all work and associated functions safely.
Qualifications
- Full and current driver licence; ability to drive manual vehicles is preferred.
- Relevant surveying qualification, civil - Bulk Earthworks construction survey experience.
- Experience using total stations, GNSS/GPS equipment, digital levels, data collectors, Drone Survey, and survey processing software.
- Experience with civil design, modelling or survey software such as 12d, Trimble Business Center, Civil 3D, AutoCAD, Magnet, Leica, Topcon or similar is desirable.
- At least 5 years' experience in civil construction surveying, preferably on mining, tailings or dam infrastructure, earthworks, roads, drainage, water management, underground mine support infrastructure or heavy civil projects.
- Experience working safely and productively in active construction environments, preferably with exposure to mining, quarrying, tunnelling or major infrastructure projects.
