Korero mo te turanga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellington is currently recruiting a Mata Eke Panuku - Manager, Student Recruitment Events to join the Student Recruitment Events team on a permanent, full-time basis.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead end-to-end planning and delivery of the University's domestic recruitment events programme.
  • Develop operational plans, event timelines, run sheets, delivery frameworks and governance processes.
  • Lead, coach and performance manage direct reports and coordinate a large casual workforce during peak periods.
  • Work collaboratively with Faculties, Marketing, Communications, Student Operations, International Office, Scholarships, Student Success, Health, Safety and Wellbeing, and external suppliers.
  • Manage event budgets, procurement, supplier relationships, risk, compliance and health and safety requirements.
  • Establish measures to evaluate event effectiveness, including attendance, engagement, lead capture and conversion indicators.
  • Use data and feedback to improve future recruitment events and prospective student experiences.

You will:

  • Be an experienced events professional with a strong background in large-scale, complex event delivery.
  • Be highly organised, calm under pressure, confident managing multiple stakeholders, and able to lead people through busy delivery periods.
  • Understand the importance of events as part of the prospective student journey and be committed to delivering inclusive, high-quality experiences.

Key requirements:

  • At least 7 years' experience in event management, including end-to-end planning and delivery of large-scale, complex events.
  • Experience leading and developing staff, including permanent and casual team members.
  • Strong project management and organisational skills, including the ability to manage multiple events and deadlines.
  • Experience managing budgets, procurement, suppliers, operational risk and health and safety requirements.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills across diverse internal teams and external suppliers or partners.
  • Experience using data and evaluation frameworks to measure event effectiveness and support continuous improvement.
  • Understanding of the New Zealand tertiary education environment and the prospective student journey.
  • Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity and culturally responsive engagement with Maori, Pacific and diverse communities.
