General Manager, People and Culture

Bendon is looking for a commercially minded General Manager, People and Culture to lead our people function across New Zealand and Australia.

This is a strategic and hands-on role with a clear mandate to build and deliver our people strategy, strengthen leadership capability and create a high-performance culture across our stores, support office and Executive Leadership Team.

You will move easily between long-term planning and practical delivery, coaching leaders, managing complex employment matters, improving recruitment and ensuring our people practices support business performance.

What you'll do

  • Develop and deliver Bendon's people strategy across New Zealand and Australia.
  • Build a high-performance culture with clear expectations and accountability.
  • Strengthen leadership capability from Store Managers through to senior leaders.
  • Lead workforce planning, succession, talent and performance management.
  • Provide trusted advice across the full employee lifecycle.
  • Manage employment relations and ensure compliance with New Zealand and Australian employment law.
  • Lead and develop a small People & Culture team.
  • Create innovative recruitment strategies for retail, specialist and hard-to-fill roles.
  • Improve engagement, retention and people processes across the business.

About you

You are an experienced senior People and Culture leader who combines strong commercial thinking with practical delivery.

You will bring:

  • Senior People and Culture leadership experience across New Zealand and Australia.
  • Strong knowledge of employment law and employee relations in both markets.
  • Experience building people strategy, leadership capability and high-performance cultures.
  • Experience in retail, hospitality or another multi-site environment.
  • Strong coaching, influencing and change leadership skills.
  • A practical, direct and solutions-focused approach.
  • The ability to think differently about recruitment and talent pipelines.
