Job Description
Upper Hutt City Council is looking for a Planning Compliance Officer to join our Resource Consents and Compliance team. As a compliance officer, you will be providing a front‑line service to investigate possible breaches of the Resource Management Act, District Plan and bylaws. The role is also responsible for undertaking monitoring of the resource consents granted by Council to ensure compliance with approved plans/documents and conditions. This includes completing site visits, review of plans and documents submitted for approval, completing tasks associated with subdivision certification; and checking building consent applications for compliance against the District Plan and approved resource consents. The role requires working with people to help them understand their regulatory responsibilities and achieve positive social and environmental outcomes. Where necessary, it also requires completing robust investigations and preparation of evidence for enforcement action. This role is suitable for all levels of experience as you will work alongside another Planning Compliance Officer and other members of the Resource Consents and Compliance team. The role also provides opportunities to be involved with other planning work undertaken by the team as well. To be successful in this role, you will need: Strong organisational and time management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise own work and work effectively to deadlines. Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with a range of people across the community. Excellent communication skills to enable effective and appropriate communication with people in sometimes stressful situations.
