111 Police Emergency Communicator – the invisible front line New Zealand Police works with the community to make New Zealanders safe and to feel safe. With over 13,000 staff we provide policing services 24 hours a day, every day. We operate by land, sea and air, manage over 860,000 emergency calls a year and are always actively preventing crime and crashes. Permanent full‑time shift work based in Christchurch.Training salary $64,161 (nine weeks training). Base salary $72,112 after successfully completing training. Next intake starts September 28th 2026. About the role You are the calm voice people first hear when calling on what is often the worst day in their lives. The role is fast‑paced, stressful and demanding, mentally and emotionally. Each call is different, ranging from violence, suicide, sexual assault, sudden death, rescue situations and more – people's lives are at stake. As a Police Emergency Communicator you will be the reassuring and empathetic voice guiding and supporting people in their time of need. The role is tough, but equally rewarding, and could be the start of an exciting career with the NZ Police. Our Centres operate 24/7, 365 days a year. The shift pattern is 6 days on (with early‑morning, late‑afternoon and evening starts) followed by 4 days off. There is an additional 15% shift allowance and additional leave entitlements for hours worked on weekends, evenings and overnight.
