Job Description

Overview Market Technical Specialist – 12‑month fixed term with Transpower’s Market Services group in Wellington. Transpower owns and operates New Zealand’s National Grid, the high‑voltage transmission network connecting generation sites with towns and cities across the country. The role focuses on technical leadership across electricity market systems, market design, and regulatory and economic drivers that influence system operations. Responsibilities Lead technical advice across electricity market systems, market design, and market operations. Represent System Operator interests in system and market change initiatives. Support real‑time operations during complex events. Mentor colleagues across the Market Services group. Engage with stakeholders, including wholesale electricity market participants and market operations service providers. Qualifications A tertiary qualification in Mathematics, Science, Engineering, Economics, Operations Research, or a comparable field. Deep experience with electricity market systems, market design, market operations and regulatory settings, particularly in the implementation of rules into tools and processes. Ability to represent business interests in technology investment, system enhancement or capital project environments, including as Product Owner, business lead or subject‑matter expert. Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to investigate complex operational, market and policy issues and develop practical, risk‑aware solutions. Highly developed written, verbal and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to influence technical, operational, regulatory and executive audiences. Collaborative leadership style, with the ability to mentor, coach and build capability across teams.
