Job Overview Rocket Lab’s IT team manages global access to information and operations across computer systems, networks, and devices. The IT Database Administrator II works onsite in Mt Wellington, Auckland, and collaborates closely with the U.S. counterpart to deliver world‑class SQL Server services across Rocket Lab sites worldwide. Responsibilities Design, implement, and maintain on‑prem and cloud SQL Server database environments (2016/2019/2022). Manage database availability groups, replication, and failover clustering. Perform database installations, upgrades, patches, and migrations. Monitor database uptime, performance, and resources; resolve performance issues and advise on query optimization and indexing. Ensure robust backup and recovery strategies with tested disaster‑recovery procedures. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements such as GDPR, HIPAA, SOX, etc. Provide senior‑level technical support for database‑related issues across all Rocket Lab sites and coordinate with the U.S. Senior DBA. Collaborate with application support and development teams to deliver robust and high‑performing business solutions. Create and maintain comprehensive global documentation of database systems and procedures. Required Qualifications 5+ years of experience in IT and a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience (≥9 years total experience). 5+ years of experience in a database‑focused technology role. Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or a similar certification. Nice‑to‑Have Qualifications Experience in SQL Server database administration in a distributed multi‑instance server environment. Experience with Azure SQL Database and managed instances. Knowledge of PowerShell scripting for automation. Understanding of Windows Server administration and storage systems. Experience with database monitoring tools such as SolarWinds, RedGate, Idera, etc. Experience with migration and support of cloud platforms (Azure, AWS). Knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines. Familiarity with other database platforms (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL). Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes). Knowledge of data warehousing and ETL processes. Workplace Requirements This position may require prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, computer work, and occasional exposure to moderate levels of noise, dust, and fumes in production areas.
