Job Description

Position Title Allied Health Assistant – Integrated Stroke Unit & Assessment, Treatment and Rehabilitation Ward Location & Employment Waitakere Hospital, Waitematā, NewZealand. Full‑time, 1.0FTE (40 hours per week), Permanent. About the Role You will work within older adult rehabilitation and the adult Integrated Stroke Unit, providing therapy, motivation and support to a variety of adult patients to aid their rehabilitation journey. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, supporting physiotherapists, occupational therapists and speech‑language therapists. Key Responsibilities Carry out prescribed rehabilitation programmes with patients in the therapy gym or on the wards, under the guidance of the interdisciplinary team. Provide individual or group therapy sessions focused on patients’ goals, including exercises or activities to improve day‑to‑day function, independence and communication. Assist patients with daily tasks such as preparing breakfast, performing balance and strength exercises, and engaging in supported conversations. Support equipment provision as guided by therapists. Qualifications & Requirements Previous experience working in a healthcare environment, preferably in rehabilitation. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong time‑management and proactive approach. Ability to work Monday to Friday (7:30am‑4:00pm or 8:00am‑4:30pm). Current full NewZealand driver’s licence (ideal). Reliable, honest, hard‑working and dedicated team player. About the Team & Service The allied health inpatient rehabilitation team works in a ward setting alongside nurses, doctors, pharmacists, dietitians, social workers and others, providing rehabilitation for patients after acute medical events such as stroke (all ages), fractures, amputations or medical illnesses.
