Consultant Psychiatrist (Older Persons)

About the Role The Mental Health and Addictions Service at Hawkes Bay Hospital has an opportunity for a Senior Medical Officer. This position is permanent, full or part time. The role is within the Older Persons Mental Health and Consultation Liaison services. Key Responsibilities Comprehensive mental health assessment and treatment. Medico‑legal duties, including acting as Responsible Clinician under the Mental Health (Compulsory Assessment and Treatment) Act 1992 and carrying out formal capacity assessments for the Protection of Personal and Property Rights Act. Collaboration with general practitioners, other hospital medical staff and members of multidisciplinary teams, cultural support staff, families and management to ensure equitable, safe care of patients. Qualifications and Experience Vocational registration in Psychiatry with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) or equivalent qualification, and ability to qualify for registration with MCNZ. Clinical leadership experience within multidisciplinary teams. Commitment to continuous quality improvement.
