Director Strategy and Growth Department: Strategy (Pet Refuge) Employment Type: Part Time Location: Auckland (Pet Refuge) Description About us No one should have to choose between their own safety and the safety of a beloved pet. Pet Refuge provides temporary shelter and care for pets affected by family violence, giving pets and their families the opportunity to escape abuse, find safety and start again - together. We work with Women's Refuge, NZ Police and other agencies providing a national service to keep pets safe until they can be reunited with their families. About the role With demand for our service growing, we’re looking for a strategic, values-led senior leader with CEO or General Management experience to help deliver our next major chapter of growth and impact. Working with the Founder (Managing Trustee), the Director of Strategy & Growth will lead the development and implementation of Pet Refuge’s organisational strategy, delivery of its 36-month road map, deepen government and strategic partnerships, support the strategy for sustainable revenue growth, and continue to build the high performing team, values lead culture and capability needed for long-term impact. This is a broad, senior leadership role with scope and influence. You will be responsible for driving organisational alignment, identifying opportunities for innovation and service enhancement, supporting future expansion, and strengthening Pet Refuge’s position as a trusted partner and thought leader within the family violence and animal welfare sectors. Key areas of focus In this role, you will work closely with the Managing Trustee to; Lead strategic projects including shelter expansion and new service initiatives supporting pets and families. Build and strengthen relationships with government agencies, family violence referral partners, funders and strategic partners. Work with the Philanthropy Manager to strengthen major donor relationships. Work with the Head of Marketing and Fundraising & CFO to support sustainable revenue growth initiatives. Build and sustain a high-performing, values-led organisational culture. Lead, coach and support our senior leaders, fostering collaboration, accountability and engagement Maintain oversight of operations, risk, compliance, health, safety, wellbeing, systems and organisational performance. Attend bi-monthly Board meetings, preparing the Board reports to ensure Trustees continue to have good oversight of organisational performance, risk and major projects. About you You will be a strategic thinker who can turn plans into action and get things done. You’ll bring a strong track record in leading organisational growth, capability development and senior stakeholder engagement. You’ll be a confident and influential communicator, able to build credibility across government, funders, community partners, staff, Boards and key external stakeholders. You’ll also be commercially and financially astute, with an understanding of how to build exceptional organisational performance. Most importantly, you’ll be a values-led people leader who’s not afraid to do the doing and can build collaborative, high-performing teams, challenge thinking constructively, and work closely with the Managing Trustee and Board to deliver meaningful, long-term impact. This role would suit someone who is: An experienced high performing CEO or GM (minimum ten years) Financially and commercially astute Comfortable leading through complexity, ambiguity and change Experienced in organisational growth, partnerships and building high performing teams Able to create authentic credible relationships with government, business partners, funders and key community stakeholders A collaborative, values-led leader who can bring people with them Why this role?
