Job Description
The role involves collecting water and environmental samples from the Central Otago region, including environmental monitoring sites, trade waste, reservoirs, water mains, wastewater treatment plants, and customer sites. The role also includes laboratory-based testing, preparation of samples for external analysis, and liaising with customers to coordinate sampling requirements. Key Responsibilities Plan and carry out the day's sampling programme to maximise efficiency and minimise travel distance. Maintain courteous, professional interactions with the public and clients, providing information and answering basic queries. Collect samples with careful handling to prevent contamination and perform any required on‑site measurements. Accurately record details of time, location, and on‑site measurements. Operate in accordance with the company’s Quality and Procedures manuals. Plan and conduct analyses to meet, or preferably exceed, customer expectations. Process samples within the allowable time and temperature limits set by the NZ Drinking Water Standards, Resource Consents and other applicable regulations. Conduct in‑laboratory analysis as required. Other Requirements Comply with the company’s Health and Safety procedures. Notify the Laboratory Manager immediately of any equipment, instrumentation, or day‑to‑day work problems. Proactively identify opportunities to improve service delivery. Undertake additional tasks when requested. Adopt the company’s Lean Principles. Qualifications A full clean New Zealand Driver’s Licence. Certificate or Diploma in Laboratory Techniques, or equivalent qualification; or significant laboratory experience. Experience in a commercial laboratory will be an advantage. Experience working within an administration role or similar would be highly regarded. Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to structure thoughts deliberately, logically and directly. Knowledge of standard office applications, especially MS Word and MS Excel. Strong attention to detail. Excellent organisational skills and ability to multi‑task.
