We're looking for a Civil Project Engineer to join our Civil team in Central Otago. Reporting to the Department Manager – Civil, you'll play a key role in delivering a diverse range of civil infrastructure projects across the region. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys being close to the action, solving problems on site, and working collaboratively with operational teams to deliver projects that make a lasting impact on our communities. About the role As a Civil Project Engineer, you'll be responsible for supporting the successful delivery of civil construction projects from planning through to completion. Working closely with the Department Manager, project teams, subcontractors, and clients, you'll help ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with specifications. This is a hands‑on role that combines technical engineering expertise with practical project delivery. You'll spend time both on site and in the office, coordinating resources, managing documentation, monitoring progress, and providing engineering solutions that support successful project outcomes. Key Responsibilities Lead and coordinate day‑to‑day engineering activities on civil construction projects. Support the planning, delivery, and completion of projects in line with programme, budget, and quality objectives. Provide engineering support and technical guidance to site teams. Coordinate subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and project resources to ensure work progresses efficiently. Prepare, review, and manage project documentation, including quality records, methodologies, work plans, programmes, and reporting requirements. Assist with procurement, cost tracking, forecasting, and project financial management. Monitor project progress and identify risks, opportunities, and solutions to support successful outcomes. Ensure compliance with contract specifications, engineering standards, and relevant legislation. Maintain strong working relationships with clients, stakeholders, subcontractors, and project teams. Promote and champion health, safety, environmental, and quality standards across all project activities. Provide regular project updates and engineering support to the Department Manager. Qualifications A tertiary qualification in Engineering, preferably a Bachelor of Civil Engineering or equivalent. A minimum of 5 years' experience within civil construction, infrastructure, or contracting environments. Demonstrated experience supporting the delivery of civil infrastructure projects. Strong understanding of construction methodologies, project delivery processes, and project management principles. Experience with programming, cost control, quality assurance, and project documentation. Strong technical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to provide practical engineering solutions. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. A proactive approach with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
