Lead Advisor, Learning Design

About the Role Full time fixed‑term or secondment opportunity until 30 June 2028. The Learning Design team seeks a new Lead Advisor, Learning Design, with particular expertise in te ao Māori, te reo Māori and Mātauranga Māori. The role is part of the New Zealand Curriculum & Te Whāriki group within Te Poutāhū | Curriculum Centre. Core Responsibilities Collaborate closely with curriculum design teams, senior leadership, and wider groups to lead the development of teaching and learning resources. Provide credible advice, insights, and guidance on initiatives related to the NewZealand Curriculum and Te Whāriki. Develop educational resources, working with commercial developers and within government procurement processes. Conceptualise, translate, and develop frameworks and standards to support curriculum design and deliver high‑quality resources and services. Partner across teams to research and evidence‑based initiatives, offering innovative solutions to current practices. Lead development and research activities, manage change initiatives, support programme implementation, and ensure quality outcomes for all learners. Mentor, coach, and build capability across the organisation. Remain adaptable in a changing work environment and stay current with evolving educational landscapes and professional development. Qualifications & Experience Proven expertise and experience in te ao Māori, te reo Māori, and mātauranga Māori, education, and curriculum resource and assessment design. Knowledge of knowledge‑rich curriculum and the science of learning to support quality education outcomes. Strong stakeholder relationship‑management skills, including across education and government sectors. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to lead and support complex analysis, business cases, and advice. Exceptional ministerial writing skills and clear, professional written and verbal communication. High level of industry knowledge to provide actionable insights, advice, and analysis. Ability to drive performance across multiple channels, including review, implementation, and assessment of policy and processes. Willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct. Salary and Benefits Salary range: $100,296 - $121,490 per annum + KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary reflecting individual skills and experience. About the Team The purpose of Te Poutāhū is to lead the national curricula for Aotearoa NewZealand and associated systems of assessment. We design, develop and provide curriculum services that reflect identities, languages and cultures of teachers, kaiako, leaders, ākonga, whānau and communities.
